If you weren’t paying attention, you are reading this on TheRatHole.ca and that CA stands for Canada. Today is Canada Day. For almost 2 decades, Canada Day has been one of my busiest non-convention workdays of the year. Even with the pandemic cancelling my normal gig, I was immediately booked elsewhere. I mention this mainly to point out that today’s CrowdFUNding Spotlight will be fairly short.
GURPS stands for Generic Universal RolePlaying System. It is one of the first, and most popular, universal RPG systems. In GURPS you can play anything, anywhere. Oddly enough, I’ve never actually had the chance to play it. Steve Jackson Games launched their 2020 PDF Challenge campaign this morning and within hours had unlocked several PDF stretch goals, with more that will be revealed and likely already unlocked. These PDF vary from campaign settings, character templates, adventures, and who know what else is left to come.
Here’s where it gets interesting. The basic pledge level for the eventual 12 unlocked PDFs is only $3(USD). If you’re new to GURPS you can pledge $49 and get all 12 new PDFs plus both GURPS Basic Set PDFs. If you pledge $30 you get the new PDFs and a $30 credit to spend on previous GURPS PDFs in Backerkit, or $99 gets you a $125 credit. If there is a PDF not listed in Backerkit that’s currently available in SJG’s Warehouse 23 webstore, they will work with you to get it for you.
This is a short (12 day) campaign that has no physical rewards, and therefore no shipping costs. The November 2020 fulfilment date gives enough of a buffer in case there are delays with Backerkit or unforeseen issues that may or may not be on your 2020-Apocalypse Bingo Card. The PDFs are done and ready to go.
